Keith D. Maples, Attorney at Law

Practice Philosophy:

Having represented parties going through the divorce process over the years I have found that the courts are not very well equipped to resolve the dissolution of a marriage. As a litigator focusing exclusively on Family Law disputes, I have always felt that my greatest contribution is as an innovative problem solver, who attempts to discover reasonable solutions that serve everyone. For years I have attempted to help families resolve their disputes without forcing a stranger (the Judge) to make major life altering decisions for them.

Collaborative Law provides the best environment for families to get the assistance of various professionals that assist and prepare a couple to make decisions themselves regarding the transition of divorce. For a family with children, how the divorce is handled sets the stage for the remainder of the children's lives. If parents want their children to be comfortable involving both of their parents in major life events, then Collaborative Law is the means to the end. While I still maintain an active litigation and mediation practice, I believe that for many families the Collaborative Law model is the ideal means to resolve their disputes.

After working on numerous Collaborative Law cases, it has become apparent to me that the best approach to Collaborative Law involves an interdisciplinary team approach. Both parties should have experienced counsel, but additionally a collaborative facilitator and financial expert should be involved in most cases.

I find that while I still enjoy all aspects of my Family Law Practice, I get the most personal satisfaction from successfully helping a client to negotiate their own settlement of their Collaborative Law case.
